چکیده

The simulation of the productivity and stability of grazing systems requires to relate herbage consumption, vegetation state and sward growth by functional relationships (Hodgson and Illius,1996). Sward growth is frequently simulated from light intercepted by leaf area and photosynthesis or light use efficiency (Johnson and Parsons, 1985; Hutching and Gordon, 2001). Some recent approaches on grazing management (Demment et al., 1995; Parson et al., 2000) underline the need to establish these relationships on a daily basis and at a local scale i.e. the size of one or some bites by the grazing animal.

Daylength influences the response of three clover species (Trifolium spp.) to short-term ozone stress

Long photoperiods characteristic of summers at high latitudes can increase ozone-induced foliar injury in subterranean clover (Trifolium subterraneum). This study compared the effects of long photoperiods on ozone injury in red and white clover cultivars adapted to shorter or longer daylengths of southern or northern Fennoscandia. Plants were exposed to 70 ppb ozone for six hours during the day...

Physiological and Morphological Responses of White Clover (Trifolium repens) and Red Clover (Trifolium pratense) Plants to Salinity Stress

Trifolium spp. are native plants in Iran exhibiting good ground cover po-tential. Salinity is a major environmental stress and today, 20% of the world cultivated areas and nearly half of all irrigated lands are affected by salinity. The main aim of this research was to study morphological and physiological adaptations of these native species under different salinity levels for urban landscape u...

Some chemical and morphological properties of five clover species (Trifolium sp.) at different aspect of pasture in Belovets village (Razgrad), Bulgaria

The aim of investigation was to determine the effects of aspect (north and south) on some morphological [plant height (cm), number of stems per plant, main stem diameter (mm), number of leaves per main stem, petiole length (cm), leaflet length (cm), leaflet width (cm), leaf: stem ratio] and chemical [crude protein (%), crude cellulose (%), calcium (%), phosphorus (%), potassium (%) and magnesiu...

Light interception efficiency explained by two simple variables: a test using a diversity of small- to medium-sized woody plants.

• Plant light interception efficiency is a crucial determinant of carbon uptake by individual plants and by vegetation. Our aim was to identify whole-plant variables that summarize complex crown architecture, which can be used to predict light interception efficiency. • We gathered the largest database of digitized plants to date (1831 plants of 124 species), and estimated a measure of light in...
